Nigerian draughts 100 — rules and training
Play Nigerian draughts in your browser, whether you are in Nigeria or elsewhere in Africa and the world. Each side starts with 20 pieces on a mirrored 10×10 board with a red long diagonal. This page explains the Nigerian variant available on CheckersArena; African draughts traditions do not all share one ruleset.

Men and flying kings
Men move forward and capture forward or backward. Kings move along diagonals across empty squares. A man is crowned when its completed move ends on the promotion row.
Complete captures, without a maximum rule
A capture is compulsory. After each jump, a king must land where it can continue capturing if such a landing exists, including a change of diagonal. You do not have to select the longest of different complete capture sequences.
Captured pieces remain blockers
Captured pieces stay on the board until the entire move is complete. You cannot jump over the same captured piece again.

Who moves first in Nigerian checkers on CheckersArena?
White starts new games on CheckersArena. Previously saved games retain their original move order.
Must I capture the maximum number of pieces?
No. You must complete the selected sequence. A king cannot stop on a landing that avoids another capture when a continuing landing was available after the same jump.
Is Nigerian draughts the same as international draughts?
No. Both use a 10×10 board and 20 pieces per side, but their board orientation and capture choices differ. Select International for the international ruleset.
Does this cover every African draughts variant?
No. This game uses CheckersArena’s Nigerian variant. Agree on the variant before playing: local draughts rules can differ across Africa.
