Brazilian checkers 64rules and training

Brazilian draughts, called damas brasileiras in Brazil, combines an 8×8 board with backward captures and flying kings. Practise full capture sequences here or open our Portuguese guide below.

Men

Men move one square diagonally forward, but may capture both forward and backward.

Maximum capture

Capturing is mandatory. When several sequences exist, the move taking the greatest number of pieces must be chosen.

Flying king

A king moves diagonally across any number of empty squares and may land farther beyond a captured piece.

How many pieces does each player have?

Each player starts with 12 men on an 8×8 board.

Can a man capture backward?

Yes. A man moves forward but captures in both directions.
